So the time presents itself for me to blog again! Welcome back and I am glad you are here. I have a real goal next week to blog without it being assigned, so take a moment to join me in asking the time management Gods for rest, recuperation, and free time. I just know whatever I do blog about that is not an assignment will have terms like vibes, energy, and lit...so let's really hope that I do this, cause it will be entertaining.
I am newly tasked with creating an online test or assessment. Using technology to assess or survey students, co-workers, and friends is actually something worthwhile to investigate. If you are a collaborative spirit and need those 'atta gal/boy, kudos, and virtual thumbs up and awkward emoji smiles and winks here and there, then these online testing environments just might be for you. I was pretty comfortable with this concept because I have participated in Kahoot, Quizizz, Survey Monkey and plenty of various assessment online tools. I have found ways to use Google Forms in my class and found it very easy to use and customize. However, my students are movers and shakers and they need more. I mean literally- my secondary students really do move and shake so I needed something more engaging and fun for them to do warm-ups, closures, introduction to new units, and pre/post-assessment.
So...after much research and investigation the winner to moving and shaking my students is Kahoot! I choose Kahoot because I like that it is synchronized, engaging, free, and easy to customize. I have made a Kahoot in the past, but I think I set it up as a student and therefore I did not have a great experience with the tool. I never used the environment after the initial setup. This time using Kahoot was fairly easy (even though I can't change my prior student username, but I will later) - I was even able to insert a short video on the content that my test was over. I found Kahoot to be easy to maneuver with plenty of options to customize the experience to your own taste. I integrated my readings from the 2017 Horizon Report K-12 Edition as well as what I teach in my own classroom to come up with a Digital Citizenship Kahoot. I teach my students about digital literacy and warn them about making sure their digital footprint is reflective of the best part of themselves. Please have a look and test your knowledge on Digital Citizenship and try my quiz!

ReplyDeleteI know this is silly, but I absolutely love the title of this blog! So cute! I love using Kahoot! too. I think it was a great choice!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tara. I love Kahoot too. I am having some hiccups with my collegial community accessing it because you have to use two gadgets. But for the classroom it is a great tool.
